This was a bit tricky for me to decide where I wanted to post this thread.

I didn't post it in "Writer's RoundTable" because that seems to be more along the lines of people posting their actual writings in there, and that is not what this thread it; it's an inquiry thread to a specific blogging area on the web.

I didn't post it in Women Only because I also want input from men (beginning with the second question, below).

SO! Here I am, posting it in Community Lounge. I hope it's ok with the moderators.

On with the reason for this thread:

Is anyone using BlogHer to house their online blog (supposing that such blog is not housed here at FCN in BlogTowne)?

Do you read any blogs that is a BlogHer blog?

Tell me what you like and what you dislike about BlogHer?

I'm very intrigued and quite interested.

Thanks!

I took a quick look at BlogHer. With just a quick look I do not think I will go back--unless I knew someone who posted then I would probably just go to that post.

My reasons--the site is not that easy to navigate--too much on the page. And this may seem picky but I did not like the font used.

It seemed overall kind of MTVish to me.

I can see that it would be a good network for some individuals--just not me I guess.

But then I have been known to change my mind now and then.

This may not be any help, but a SIL of mine uses BlogSpot. It seems to be versatile, since she periodically changes the appearance. And it doesn't have annoying adds.

..... hhhmmmm...... I scanned the first page... and then went to see if I could find a bog or two to click on....

A featured blog link at the top said,"A Sex Blogger on the Miley Cirus Photo."

(I didn't want to click it.)

I clicked on another blog... it seems okay. I just don't get a 'homey' feel while I'm there....

I know that for a long while I posted on Open Diary. There are some risque bloggers there... but I used my blog as an outreach and tried to post about how Jesus is working in my life. Several people followed my blog while I was active there... including a prostitute and a witch. I always had high hopes that they would want to see more of Jesus.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for y'all's replies, Patricia, Euty and Rach!

I think I need to clarify a few things:

1) The link that I provided is one of the information pages about what BlogHer is. It is not a sample of what each individual blog will look like (each blogger lays out their own blog however they wish).

2) I am specifically asking about BlogHer because of the advertisements (well, that's one of the reasons).

3) BlogHer is a "publishing network" . . . kinda in the way that BlogSpot is an "umbrella for various and different blogs. Hence, there are going to be some blogs on BlogHer that are going to be inappropriate (just as there are also inappropriate blogs on BlogSpot).

Perhaps THIS LINK would have been a better choice to post.

Also, if you click on that link . . . once on that page, look to your left. See "Meet Our Bloggers" ? Click on a few of them. You'll notice that many of the blogs are from different blog "hosts" (i.e., BlogSpot being one of them).

*~*~*~*~*
And lastly, THIS WEBSITE is where I first learned about BlogHer.

Oh man, I love this website! But enough about that . . . for now. LOL

*~*~*~*~*
I'm hoping that someone who has experience with BlogHer will be able to come to this thread and educate us.

Thanks for y'all's replies; I appreciate them!

The second link was helpful. But I still am not crazy about it. I think because of the advertising. I understand that the point of this site is the ads and networking--but there is just too much going on.

Keep in mind I like it simple and I am not exactly computer illiterate but far from proficient.

I clicked it and found it quite thought-provoking.

Is anyone using BlogHer to house their online blog (supposing that such blog is not housed here at FCN in BlogTowne)?

Nope.

I've been blogging since 2004. Mine are done w/ Blogger but not affiliated with any particular organization or network.

Polka-dotted Sky (my regular blog)
Cozy Cuppa Corner (my poetry/writing/books blog)

Yes.

Cake Wrecks (When Professional Cakes Go Horribly, Hilariously Wrong)

The Pioneer Woman (Ree Drummond)

I stick to the blogs I stumble across and like... plus ones that my friends and family keep up, and various ministries I'm interested in or connected with. (See the blogroll over @ Polka-dotted Sky.) I haven't delved too much into the world of BlogHer.

I must say that I find blogs with fewer ads, less cluttered graphic design and layout, and a good balance of writing and photos to be the ones I gravitate toward.

I think some of the blogs I read are on the BlogHer network, but I do not read them just for that reason.

The one advantage with BlogHer use to be ad fees.

They have a blogging conference.
