My husband and I went away for 3 days last weekend. I have a friend of mine who was actually the original owner of our dog ( I call her his birth mom). We took the dog over to their house to stay for the three days. He absolutely loves this couple and gets very excited when we visit them. I was pretty sure I was detecting some anger at us when we picked him up. He was definitely insecure, crying when we went outside to the car for a minute. He even refused to go down to the basement to retrieve his ball when we played fetch with him. But he also seemed a bit standoffish toward us as though he was angry. Am I imagining things?

Was this the first time that you left your dog with your friend? How old is he? How long has it been since he lived with your friend? It's possible that he's just totally confused about what's going in. He starts his life off in one home, is moved, settled and then goes back to his original home. While he's trying to figure out what's going on, you turn up and take him back again. Perhaps before you go away again, you'd consider leaving him at the friends for a day and then overnight before (in his eyes) dumping him. And yes, I know you didn't dump him ~ but how does he feel about it?

Dogs don't get angry. They can suffer from separation anxiety which is what I think is the problem. Give him time and plenty of attention. He should recover quickly.

I've never had my dog get "mad" at me when I left him at a kennel or with a friend. I'm with laura; its more of an anxiety thing. When I owned a cat, it was different. That thing got ticked... EASILY!

I don't know that dogs don't ever get angry. I think he's probably confused. Our dogs were always THRILLED to see us after we'd been away. Then after the greeting it was like they remembered they were a bit miffed with us. Also, they would get nervous when we'd leave again, even if it was a part of our normal routine. Miss Kitty oddly does the same thing as I mentioned our dogs used to do. She greets me nicely, loudly, and lovingly... then ignores me. hahaha

With cats, they let you live in their house. That's why a cat would get ticked if you uprooted it and made it live somewhere else for a few days.

No my dog doesn't get angry with us. We have left her a few times and she is so excited to see us when we get her. Now our cat that is another thing. She seems to even have a mad look on her face at times if she doesn't like something you are doing to her.

That thing got ticked... EASILY! When my cat was a kitten, I was recovering from a terrible illness and could not work for nine months. After I returned to work, he would run ahead of me as I went to leave the house and swat at my legs with his paws. This went on for the longest time. He eventually got over it and now just looks at me as I head out the door to work.

When I moved to another place, my cat hid in a closet for 2 months till she adjusted to the new place. Pets get overwhelmed when we change place. Just like humans, they need some adjustment to the new place. Worse off, I stayed in a hotel for 2 nites which made here even more and more bewildered. So there you go. Pets are humans and have feelings both negative and positive.

Our dog has been with us for 3years now. He has regular visits with his birth mom. They have a key to our house and will stop by to pick him up for the day sometimes or we will drop him at their house sometimes. This was I think the first time it has been that long of a visit though. We spoiled him terribly the day we got home. We played fetch with him, took him on a few car rides and lots of hugs and belly rubs. He seems back to normal now but I am wondering how he will react next time we visit his other mom and dad.

Both my cats get mad at me especially the coon cat.I think cats have seperation anxiety as well. When my family and I went to Florida for a week we came home to a broken ornament my mom had kept out, since it was new and she loved it and a broken angel figurine. Our cats don't normally go around breaking stuff so I think they did it cause they were upset we were gone. Ginger gets mad at Simba for teasing her,and than takes it out on me when I try to comfort her.She is a very moody kitty.Simba doesn't get mad at me too much but does this funny little meow, almost like a squeak when he is annoyed. It sounds so funny.

I think they get mad, but most pets get over it in a few days or less. Cats, on the other hand......

I don't know if my cat gets mad at me but she sure leaves me "presents" when I've been away. It's not because her litter box is dirty either as I have someone come in to feed her and clean out her litter box every day.

Cats are indeed a whole different animal. When dh and I were expecting our first child we were living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. It had been built in 1928 and at one time there had been a murphy bed in it. When we lived there the murphy bed was gone but the little closet that it had been in was perfect for our cat. She had her litter box in there and all her toys. When we found out we were expecting the cat got moved out of that room and the baby's crib got moved in. The cat would meow and meow at me whenever I came home to let me know she didn't approve. She eventually got over it but it was a process. I know cats hold onto anger!

My cat was mad at me for 11 years because I got a dog. In October of 97 I had to put the dog down because she was full of cancer. The cat was ecstatic. She was suddenly the lovey, purry, sociable cat that she had been 11 years previous before we got the dog. In July we got a new dog. The cat doesn't act mad this time. I think she figures that she outlived the last dog and plans on outliving this one too.

He'll just sit there (pretty much like he's doing in my avatar) and let her bat him in the face. Fortunately she's declawed. He's 40 pounds and still growing. The previous dog was only 6 pounds. The cat outweighed the her.

I agree with laura. The owner is at fault for a poorly socialized dog, and allowing it to be approached knowing this dog has the potential to bite. Petting hair against the grain should not ruffle a dogs feathers. The chow responded to perceived threat. The dog needs to be supervised and visitors cautioned.

Right now our rooster is angry at the snow and the indignity of having to be carried through it.... Our female cat gets ticked off when I move my legs in bed at night and nails me with her claws. She also gets mad at her brother and anyone who doesn't do it her way. (But we love her anyway!)

I can attest to the fact that cats get annoyed and hold grudges. I'm away at college but when I do visit home my cat will come to be petted and then remember she is angry at me for abandoning her...that or she expects the usual - either an ear cleaning, a nail clipping, or a new flea collar from me.. haha! -reba.
