Cable companies such as Comcast are rolling out Mega Fast Internet speeds soon. They will have speeds of up to 50 MPPS. They also plan to offer slower speeds for less cost and plan to double the existing speeds of 5-6 MPPS at no additional cost.
Do you plan to get it once it is available to you? I probably will not. The over $100 price is not worth it for me, although I may consider the 22 MPPS for $60 plus dollars instead.

You only need it if you download a lot of large files.
Reading the forums on a high speed connection and checking your email isn't going to be a noticeable difference from a DSL connection. (We have high speed at work)

I doubt I will pay extra, but it would be nice. Especially, if the upload speeds are also significantly faster. I regularly upload very large amounts of photos, like a gig or two at a time. I also like to use cloud computing (online applications) such as http://www.glideos.com/, so it would be nice if it could be accessed as fast as I currently access other computers on my local network.

I'm very happy with my current speeds. The only thing I can think of making me want faster would be streaming HD that's actually 720p or better (and not over-compressed).
What makes me wary of these faster speeds is that I've heard of some that come with the exact same monthly bandwidth cap as lower speed packages. That seems awfully stupid to me.

I was in a pilot test program for 6 months for road runner and getting 50mb.
Unless you are streaming video, playing games online or downloading really large files there is not a whole lot of difference. You can certainly tell who has fast servers and who does not.
I found that living near a major internet backbone line makes a huge difference.
Sorta like if you lived a block away from the freeway or 5 miles from the freeway. Which one would get you to work faster.

Isn't the service only as fast as the servers at the websites that you connect to? Honestly, I have been contemplating actually downgrading my existing service to 1MB, which my local cable company has been silently advertising. Much slower I know, however on websites such as Crosswalk, it probably will not make much of a difference at all.

Yes, and it can also be limited by the route between your ISP and the server you're connecting to.

Actually, I think it's increased upload speeds that are more appealing to those with legitimate needs. I'm not one of them, but for people who do creative work over the web, being able to upload their work faster is very important. People who do web video, photographers who work with large batches of high res photos, programmers uploading the latest code, etc.

Will I get it? I already did! I'm currently on FIOS from Verizon runnning at 20/20mbit. I get about 2.5 megabytes a second in download and upload speed. :D Makes uploading pictures of my baby daughter to Flickr insanely fast. I can't imagine going back. The extra cost is a bit much, but I got a nice bundle package and it's well worth it. :D

What I have now is fine, and opening up the pipe is no use if they're going to keep the same caps.
I do a lot of surfing (looking for PD images) for work, and I agree, the upload speeds will be the big draw... but I don't see paying extra for speeds better than what I'm getting now with regular cable.
Besides, the big thing (and probably better) would be if they offered UHF Internet access.

What does it matter what speed Comcast offers? The service has to be UP to make a difference.

I pay $104 for digital cable and midgrade internet. It is a bit steep since I don't watch much TV and, other than college football, everything I watch is on network TV! Definitely bad stewardship. But I think that internet alone will cost me over $60 bucks. I also pay an extra $50 for unlimited data for my Palm Treo. I've thought about just getting rid of cable and tethering my phone. Not near as fast as cable but upload speeds are surprisingly fast. However, I don't think that will work as an "always on" connection and networking may be a problem since I use my mobile phone as my only phone.

I haven't looked in a while, but my cable company was offering HSI+Cable for about $60/month, so I think you're paying WAY too much.

Because I need internet that is reliable, I have to use DSL in my area. Sadly, Charter is the only provider of cable internet here, and it went down frequently (for 30 seconds to 5 mins at a time, 2 or 3 times a week). It took Charter 6 months to admit that there was a problem on their end with getting the service to be consistent to me. In addition to that, my HD channels had big freezing problems too. They replaced all of the cables coming into my home and on my street, but couldn't fix it. I switched to DSL (went from 10mpps with Charter, down to 6mpps with DSL) and I haven't had to deal with so much downtime now. I'm paying $115 for DirecTV and DSL combined, while I was paying about $105 for the combination with cable, although I only had like 20 channels in HD with cable, and also didn't have the NFL network, which peeved me.
I'm glad I switched. I wish that a better cable provider would have been in this area, because I gladly would have tried them out first.

I have rarely ever had a problem with my cable internet, but did have issues with DSL when I had it though.
Who pays over $100 for just cable alone? I don't, while I do not have any premium channels, my cost for cable is approximately $75 a month. Of course that doesn't include internet or phone at all.

Are you saying that you have a 20mb/sec connection with FIOS, and your d/l speed is 2.5 megs?
Right now I"m on charter cable getting close to 6 megs a second. I've been eagerly awaiting Verizon extending FIOS into my neighborhood but not if I'm understanding you correctly. I had their 1.5 meg/sec DSL and I never got over 700 kps way back. If the distance from their local reciever/center is what does it, then I can only assume I'd be sunk in terms of FIOS speed as well.
