Hi Ladies,

For a little while now I have been struggling with a very dry vagina and some itching. I was treated for a yeast infection that went away a little while ago.

I went to my doctor and was tested for bacteria and yeast. Both come up negative.

Does anyone have some suggestions to get rid of the dryness? It makes intercourse more difficult and not as pleasurable. I don't know if it just needs time or what. Any suggestions?

Have you had your hormone and thryoid levels checked? If they are out of whack...it can cause dryness and tenderness down there, as well as a tendency for yeast infections.

This is particularly true for women in their mid to late 40's and early 50's.

I am in my early 20's.....so it has been tricky trying to find help because anytime you see things about drying they usually talk about it in reference to menopause.

I just married about 3 months ago and was a virgin when I got married so it is an all new area to deal with. haha

I am on BC pills right now....so would that make my hormones go crazy?

I've heard that a side-effect to some BC pills is vaginal dryness. You could think about switching to a different kind, maybe that would help?

BC pills may or may not be the culprit.
I would ask the doctor what can be done, and if that could be a side effect of your particular BC

Was your husband treated for the yeast infection too? It's possible that it passed from you to him and then back.

You may want to look into taking ascidophilus tablets, or yogurt with it is, cutting back on sugary and refined foods and drinking plenty of water, which will help flush your system out.

You should also be able to get creams to help provide relief from the itching and stuff like ky-jelly which will provide lubrication. You should really get to the bottom of the problem though, instead of relying on creams and such.

as someone else stated....it could be your b/c (just one of the many "lovely" side effects of hormonal bc)...but it could still be your thyroid as well.

I'd talk to your doctor about it.
