Ok so I use MS Word to write the lyrics down for songs that the band wants to learn. Well, since I had to replace the old harddrive and reinstalled MS Office, I have ran into one odd problem that is really preventing me from formatting the lyrics: When I type a line of text and get to the margin, the text will automatically drop down one line and start from the left. No problem there..."word wrap" I think is what it is called. The problem starts when I have a line of text that the vocals will have to repeat (echo...you might say). I can't just hit Enter and drop one line...it will drop 1.5 lines, which is no good. Help! I have tried highlighting the text and using the line spaceing option but that does not effect anything.

Its not the "line spacing" that is your problem. Its the space before or after the paragraph. You need paragraph styles. Either setup your own custom paragraph styles that have single spacing with no space before or after the paragraph, or simply type in all the lyrics, let them be spaced wrong, then select the lines that go together and change the paragraph formatting to have no space before or after them. Whether you think of it like this or not, when you press the enter key after a line of text, word processors normally consider that the "end of paragraph". So you need to set the paragraph style for the lines of text that are not together and make sure the "space before" and "space after" is set to 0. This will work.

One thing you might try is hitting "shift enter" instead of "enter". This inserts a hard newline, but doesn't do the other formatting things that enter does. I do this when I want to put a hard newline in a numbered list without moving on to the next numbered item.
