L5 is going to be at the University of the Cumberlands (formerly known as Cumberland College) in Williamsburg, KY on Monday November 3. While that is just a little too far for me to drive for one night, I still have some good news about it.

A friend of mine that I had several classes with at Northern Kentucky University is now taking classes at the U of the C. I e-mailed her last night to let her know that L5 was going to be there if she wanted to see them. Well, she and the choir are opening for them!

I told her that she better get a picture with Frank and the guys and send me a copy of it!

This girl is a good friend of mine. She's young enough to be my daughter but she is more like a little sister to me. I am really happy that she is getting to do something like this!

Well, my friend missed L5 on Monday night. She got sick before the concert and had to be taken to the hospital. She's fine now. She was just a little dehydrated I guess.

She said she heard L5 was awesome and hopes she has another chance to actually see them perform in person.

I saw them on October 5th. I think Frank was sick that time too. I'm glad he got a haircut though...LOL...Maybe next time I see them, I can get a picture that doesn't have him looking like he came out of the 60's.

Prayer Requests/An Overdue Update

I hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather (already winter weather if you live up North!). The colors were beautiful in TN this year, and we are still able to see a lot of them. The wedding I attended was wonderful, and I would like to ask you to pray for the ones involved there....Many of you will remember Ashley as the girl whom Roger invited on stage in Pekin, IL to talk about their transplants. She was the bride, and a very beautiful one at that. Ashley is doing well, but still has some health issues that she must be careful with, and the stress of the wedding, along with other things, have put her in a place where she could really use the prayers for strength. Also, her mom is in need of some prayers for a new medical situation she is facing. I won't be specific, but I know the family would greatly appreciate your faithful prayers.

Now, to the next request, which directly affects our family: As of Saturday evening, Roger welcomed his grandfather Home. V.H. "Dutch" Whitmire passed away, after a long illness. We will be leaving TN in the morning to drive to AR for the visitation and funeral. Our family would also appreciate your prayers for this difficult time, and for traveling mercies. There are, of course, many things to be dealt with following "Papaw's" death, as is the case following the loss of anyone, so those matters would also be better dealt with following prayer. I hope I am not rambling here.

Most everything else is going along smoothly, though, and we are all still held firmly

In His Grip!

Debbie

I have all their tracks...except for this last 3. $25 a pop...I'll have to buy these in stages.

Why do their soundtracks cost more than the a regular CD? Seems kinda funny to me.

I don't have any sound track for any group. But I think it's nice that groups make their's available.

Don't the groups have to pay royalties on the soundtracks too? That could be apart of why the soundtracks are more money than a CD.

They probably cost them more to produce. I am sure they are not in high demand compared to the one with vocals. You know, the more you buy the cheaper things are.....

That's true!

$25 a pop isn't so bad when Daywind or Singing News or similar can charge $8-10 per song or more. Problem is, you have to 1) want to sing every song on there, and 2) know that they are going to be in your vocal range. And when it's a GUY group, and you are a female singer, things can be a little difficult....

I'm making up these numbers, but consider the overhead for each CD project: Suppose you're paying a professional $1500 for mixing and mastering and otherwise getting it ready. That number might be a little high or a little low, but at any rate it costs something.

Spread that, duplication costs, and enough profit to keep the bus rolling between 20,000 CDs or 1,000 CDs. See the difference.

Also, if you're doing fewer units, you have higher per-unit costs.

But aren't they using the same material that was already used to make the regular CD's and just cutting out the voices?? If so, you don't have to pay the musicians twice but I guess the other costs do still have to be split out between fewer units.

Yes, you don't have to pay the musicians twice, but there are a host of other costs that they still have to pay. Graphic design, for one. Another would be printing a booklet with the lyrics, since those unfortunately are rarely in the originals anymore.

New L5 question!

Have you ever met any of the L5 guys' wives (one per guy, lol)? You may include Debbie Bennett and Tony Jarman's wife as well.

I've met Debbie Bennett. It was somewhat accidental - I was waiting to talk to Dianne Wilkinson at NQC. Dianne and the lady in front of me were swapping stories about "Roger Darlin'," and it wasn't long before I realized it was Debbie!
