Well, I've been with myckey on nearly unsubscribing. I've had to remind myself that y'all post not the be self-righteous, but to be encouraging. You're on the other side of this valley and are here to help the rest of us get out! It looks like this weekend will be the end for me and smoking. We're taking the family camping with the Cub Scouts. It's at the local Boy Scout campgrounds and they have very strict no tobacco rules. I'm actually pretty psyched about it. I've thought that I needed to break all my routines for a couple of days to help me quit and you can't get routines much more broken than living in a tent for three days with three children! --Kat

Kat, sounds like a good way to begin your new journey to freedom! Keep your guard up on your temper, irritability is a symptom of withdrawal but it can be controlled if you are prepared for it.

Kat...that's wonderful!!!! I HIGHLY encourage you to read what will go on in your body the first 72 hours and be prepared for it (go to whyquit.com). What's helped me the most is knowing that cravings really only last a minute or 2, not endlessly like we think they do. It really helps to look at a clock and see that. I HAVE BEEN NICOTINE FREE FOR 50 HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time I am tempted God just reminds me.....I DO NOT want to have to start all over again. I just can't. The cravings can be very intense, especially at certain trigger times, but when one starts, I know it will be over soon and I just ride it out. I've had a lot of thoughts today of just forgetting about it and having a cigarette, but God is just too unbelievable amazing to let me give in to those thoughts.

Remember too that what we might think is a crave might just be low blood sugar. Nicotine artificially kept our blood sugar regulated if we skipped a meal. While our body reprograms itself to function normally, we can get strange twinges that is an experience we seldom experienced before - low blood sugar. Small snacks (not sugary stuff) during the day helped keep those at bay after I discovered that. CONGRATS ON 50 HOURS!!!!

I had been on a low (complex) carb lifestyle for a number of years when I quit, so I stocked up on things like beef jerky, dry roasted peanuts, pork rinds (an aquired taste), and also sugarless gum. In addition, I had been speed-walking 3-5 miles most days, so that helped a lot to keep weight down and also kept cravings down.

All I can tell you is, 5 years ago I was smoking 1-1/2 to 2 packs a day. When I stated reading this thread I was down to 0ne pack a day. As of now I'm down to 10 or less a day (continually; no yo yo-ing; for past few weeks). Yes, after 54 years of smoking, it is struggling --- one brick at a time --- for me. Thanks for caring. Now I'm going back to lurking/reading mode. Pat

Pat, I can tell you, breaking Free is Soooo worth it. As I've said before, if I had an ironclad guarantee that I would never have any tobacco related health problems and a rich uncle left me a lifetime supply of my favorite brand, I would choose to remain free.

You know what? You ARE Right; I don’t doubt you for one iota, but I don't know How to control or silence my temper and irritability --- I HATE IT to tears; I HATE anyone, especially loved ones, seeing me like that; it always drives me to break and smoke that first one!!

I know about the irritability and the brain fog. I went through both of them as a new sales rep/customer service for a technical company in a field I'd never been in before doing a LOT of phone discussions, some of which were very trying customers and engineers - not to mention a very demanding boss. I chewed a lot of gum, toothpicks, beef jerky and whatever else I could think of. It eventually passed and I managed to survive. When I Closed The Door, I determined to deal with whatever hit me however I could except with tobacco.

I'm here. I had quit until Thurs afternoon. Then I caved. I have only smoke a few, but still. I have no more in my posession. Mornings are hardest, that's when I usual cave into the cravings. Trying again. Thank you so much for your prayers and support.

The time you did not smoke is a victory in and by itself, it means so many days/hours without poison. Give yourself credit for that. GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT FOR THAT!! All you need is ONE successful attempt. You are DEFINITELY getting there, one attempt at a time.

Took what I previously would have called a deep breath of fresh air this morning, only to continue the inhalation for another 30%. Updates? Here: 166 days x 10 USD (fluctuating foreign exchange rates!)= 1660 USD saved x 20 cigs )= 3320 cigs not smoked

Right now I am ministering to a lady who wants to quit smoking who says that she would want to buy that kit which includes chewing gum and other stuff that helps smoker quit smoking. I wonder if someone used those chewing gums and proved to be good tool for quitting smoking.
