I looked up those shimmery things last year because I was concerned as to what they were. It blurrs 1/2 my vision. They are caused before a migraine. Usually 1/2 hour before onset but it can be over an hour before a migraine for me. I just try and take it easy until it all passes. Sometimes I don't have any pain either. I'm thankful that I don't usually get headaches before sex. Are you stressed about sex that it would come on at that time? Don't laugh but headaches can be a few things. Lack of water, constipation, allergy, sugar or stress. We can get headaches from taking too much Tylenol.

The headaches have only been happening for about the past year. I'm wondering if they are hormone related? The longer I go without having a period, the worse they get, then when I start I don't get them for awhile afterward then the cycle starts over again.

I get these shimmery football-shaped things that block out my vision. It must be some kind of migraine, but there is no real pain in my head. the shimmery thing grows, then moves past my field of vision, and make me kind of woozy and sick to my stomach. They're generally nothing to worry about ~ if they're black spots, they're simply dead cells that have broken free and floated infront of the optical nerve (hence the term 'floaters'). They can be a warning of a migraine. You can also get a shimmering effect that distorts your vision. Again, nothing to worry about generally, but it's a visual migraine ~ doesn't hurt, you just can't see well! If you have a sudden onset of them, after never having experienced them before, it's worth going to the doctor and/or optician to get checked out ~ which, if you're concerned about them anyhow, go for a check up.

I get those optical migraines, and so does my mom. They are a football shaped shimmery thing. I have to lay down because they make me dizzy. I just sleep them off. I don't usually get pain with them, or if I do I am sleeping and don't realize it. I never got them till I was older, so I wondered if they had something to do with menopause.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the menopause, but it is age related and you're more likely to get them as you get older...

What kind of Pajamas or nightwear do you find best if you are having mild hot flashes at night? I find I go from hot to cold and everything in between several times a night. Nothing at all, unless my daughter is sleeping with me. Then it's just a light nightgown.

Memaw ~ are you able to get one. I do think it's a wonderful procedure. I know I've had 100% success but I think even if it reduced to problem it's gotta be worth it. Can't beliueve it's been over 4 years since mine.

I haven't spoken to my dr about it, but I am going to. This is ridiculous, one month I am fine, have a fairly normal one, then go 3 months without and then have an extremely heavy, long (and painful) one. This has been going on now for over a year. I never know when I am going to start or when I am going to end. My niece had an ablation about 5 months ago and is very pleased with results.

Hate to burst your bubbles, but menopause doesn't 'stop' when you periods stop. In fact, things worsen. It can take 10 or more years for your body to adjust to the missing hormones. Also, your pituitary gland keeps trying to send out eggs. Eventually it sticks 'open' on that command and remains at that level for the rest of your life. EVERYTHING changes! I've not had a TOM for over 4 years and have just begun hot flashes and nausea. Think of it as morning sickness. Same cause, which is raging hormones. I've had night sweats for over 8 years. Stomach problems, such as gas, are common because your hormones also regulate your vili?? in the intestines, moving things along quickly. No hormones means slow release. I thought I was breezing through menopause until about two months ago. These have been the most horrible months of my life.

(((Kim))) (((Dianne))) (((Roberta))) My hormones must be doing something. I've been edgy and having a hard time sleeping through the night. Seeing what Kim and Roberta are going through, I'm thankful that I'm not dealing with the cramps and bleeding. Still, it's all I can manage to do to keep myself from biting off the heads of those I love. It doesn't take much of anything to set me off either.

Someone can say something to me that's perfectly innocent and I am like a bear woken from hibernation. I'm trying to keep a handle on it, but it's so hard. Thank you all for the hugs. You know, yesterday I got ready to go back to work and was on my way to my car when something hit me. I was so blessed this month. I could have been at work when I started, but I didn't. I could have had to get out of the house during the worse part of it, but I didn't. I got to stay home IN MY NIGHTGOWN from Christmas Eve through yesterday. I just stopped right then and gave thanks to God for that!!
