ORIGINAL: Walker311 A priest molesting a naive alter boy or a Christian adult raping his teenage neighbor then kills himself when he is discovered is a reality. Which one gets to go to heaven? Neither, unless the priest is saved before his death. Christians can commit sins, but ongoing unbroken sin is not the mark of one who is saved, for someone to think that a man could rape a neighbor then kill himself and at the same time have been a christian who had been given a new nature is ludicrous, and shows a low view of salvation and the Holy spirit. Not all who claim to be christian are. Rape is not one of those "heat of the moment" type of failings, it takes premeditation and is a sure sign of someone ruled by lust and aggression . I do not buy into the idea that a christian can sin as easily as the unsaved.

I do not buy into the idea that a christian can sin as easily as the unsaved. At first glance I would agree with your statement. Truth be told, this statement would better fit the more mature Christian. We should not be accidently stepping into sin or thoughtfully plotting out how we are going to sin then ask for forgiveness. We have all been fooled by actors pretending to be Christians. These include ministers, spouses, little old ladies that never missed a Sunday, and so on. quote:

quote:
So what does the Word say? It says narrow is the way, that means not a lot of people are going into the kingdom. That may be a tough pill to swallow but it is nonetheless written and altogether true. The way I live is this. I try with everything in my to live by Scripture. But do I get upset and swear every once in awhile when someone nearly kills me on the road? Yes. Do I think unkind thoughts sometimes? Yes. But here is the thing. I repent immediately. Not before I lay down to sleep. Immediately. And say, I am an unprofitable servant, cleanse me from all unrighteous thoughts, behavior and words right now Lord! And then I try to go as long as I can without sinning. But when I wake up every morning, I thank God because I have another chance to be better than I was yesterday. I have another chance to make my Father proud of me so that He will say "well done, thou good & faithful servant". It is hard but it is do-able. We must keep working to be better than yesterday in all aspects. Just keep working. Because I believe that it is that "effort" to do good- is what pleases God our Father. For truly the way to destruction is wide and not everyone who claims salvation is heaven bound. That is truth. I include myself. I do tremble as I work out my salvation because I am not worthy so I try even harder to do those thinks which are written in Scripture and I thank God for His Holy Spirit, our Comforter and Helper for without him, it would be hard indeed. The Word does indeed say that narrow is the way, but what is that narrow way? Jesus said, "I am the way." I see nothing in the above quote about Jesus. All I see is "I...I...I...I..." If I had to rely on my own ability to "just keep working" for my salvation, I would be sunk, because my righteousness is like a filthy rag. I agree with the hymnist who wrote, My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteousness; No merit of my own I claim, But wholly lean on Jesus' name. When he shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in him be found, Clothed in his righteousness alone, Redeemed to stand before the throne!

Yeah, thats a scary thing to realize Walker, kind of reminds me of the BTK killer, he was a deacon in his church if i remember right, if not a deacon he was very active at least, scout leader as well.

ORIGINAL: Walker311 I know this is a crazy thought and question. I already know what many of your think. Most Christians will make every effort to not sin. However, we all know what we wrestle with. All of the people in these scenarios are Christians, committed certain sins, then died immediately. You committed adultery You watched a XXX porn movie You molested a child You stole a very expensive item You told a blatant lie You are a fornicator You murdered you wife's lover You sold drugs to minors to make money You have never told anyone anywhere that you were a Christian Which one will God ok and then you can enter heaven? The only sin that can keep us from the Father is not putting my trust in His Son to take my penalty for my sins. David committed adultery and killed his mistress's lover, and was called a man after God's own heart after the offense was committed. Manasseh built high towers to worship other gods, carved out images of other gods and placed them in God's temple and sacrificed his own sons before pagan gods. And when he hit rock bottom, he turned from his wicked ways and humbled himself before God ... and God "was moved by his entreaty." (2 Chron. 33) ... You can be a mass murderer and rapist, yet if you turn to God in humility, He will take you in. Only God knows the hearts of those who sin. Only God knows who has humbled themselves and called Him Lord. Jesus told us a parable about wheat and weeds. He makes it clear we are not to try to separate the two before the harvest, because when we do so we may uproot wheat along with the weeds. (Matt. 13:24-30) I am not to judge who will make it in by what they have done here ... I only have part of the story. I am to look at another person's fruit to determine if they are following after God for the purpose of going along side of them, or being shepherd by them in ministry. But THE judgment, that is for God alone. I cannot peer into a man's heart and know whether He will go to heaven or eternal judgment; even of those who die in the middle of committing a horrendous sin. I know in my heart that Christ is both my Savior and Lord, yet it is possible for me to still sin. And if I am committing a sin, any sin, right before I die, He is still my Savior and Lord.

ORIGINAL: Walker311 Amazing! A fellow Christian I work with died this week in a motorcycle accident. I wondered if he had a sin or sins that he neglected to deal with. So far, you folks are saying this list cannot prevent a Christian from eternal life. There is no sin will will stop a genuine born-again child of God from entering into Heaven. And in order to know this for a fact, we need to know and believe what the Gospel teaches. Note carefully what is written in 1 John chapter 5: 1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Since you started the thread with "Christians" I have to say without a shadow of a doubt that no sin can ever damn a Christian. Believers are safe on the solid Rock of the Lord Jesus Christ. Make Believers on the other hand, are damned already because of the sin of unbelief. They may be religious, they may believe something about Christianity or Historical facts, but true conversion comes by believing in the heart. Trusting Christ as your divine substitute, knowing that all is settled before Almighty God. Not through my own struggling, or my own good works, or some merit that I must earn. Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. There is not one single good work that can be added to Christ's work on the Cross to make us ready for heaven. Therefore, if it is all of grace, then there is no sin that can keep us out of Heaven, other than (as has been mentioned already), the sin of unbelief, or refusal to accept Christ's free gift of salvation. Having said that, some would wonder then - what is the place of good works in the life of the Christian? They are not the CAUSE of our salvation (the false idea that grace + works = salvation), rather, good works are the FRUIT of a genuine salvation (grace = salvation + good works). Although good works do not save us, if they are not evident in our lives, I do not believe that we can have an assurance of salvation. Ephesians 2:8-10: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them." Grace FIRST, then salvation, and subsequent good works. In regards to your original post, it doesn't matter what sins you committed before Christ - murder, adultery, etc. Once we are washed clean by the blood of Jesus, all old things are passed away, all things become new. However, AFTER coming to Christ, does that mean that we become perfect and never sin again? Of course not. We may still struggle with sin, but the difference is REPENTANCE - we have made a 180 degree change in our thinking, turning from our sin, and towards Christ. We have a new direction - we are seeking God, wanting to please Him, and live free from sin, but along the way, we will stumble and fall. When we do, we need to get back up again, ask for forgiveness, and keep pursuing Christ. Once you believe in Jesus, you are adopted into God's family, and if you really have a living faith - the faith that saves (see the book of James), you cannot go to hell. However, having said that, just because someone 'prays the sinners prayer', doesn't give them an automatic ticket out of hell. James says you need to have a LIVING faith - the faith that saves, and not the faith of demons. The faith of demons, he says, believes that God exists, and are emotionally affected by that belief, but do not have the resultant fruit of good works in their lives. Grace is not JUST God's favour, it is also His empowering to life a new and different lifestyle in Christ... GREAT discussion question - blessings to all of you today!

yankedoodled, I don't know how to use the quote function properly, put more on my reply than I wanted and it doesn't look like a quote. I didn't realize I was using general scripture to refute a specific one. When you say a thief won't go to heaven do you mean someone who premeditates, and robs a home or store. or do you include those who fudge a statement on their income tax, perhaps don't return incorrect change or draw a clerks attention that they only charged for two and you have three. All of these would be stealing in my mind. just wondering how you think.

You are saying you can read the scripture and not understand what it means or says as clearly written, Mr.Fribbles ? I was asking to clarify your position. You'll notice that the passage you quoted makes no mention of, "Unless they repent." So, according to how you read what is "clearly written," a child who steals a lollipop from a convenience store is damned regardless of what they do, yes?

I think most Christians, while attempting to not make judgement, have a big problem with those lacking good works or having non-existent works.

But to keep this thread from heading down that path, I'll revise my hypothetical. Suppose a 15-year-old steals a Snickers from the corner convenience store. Are they damned to hell, regardless of any past or future action?

The you can get away with anything crowd cannot explain the severity of Ananais and Saphira either, punishment by DEATH, New Testament. Your mixing law and grace. Mark 2 21 "No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak; otherwise, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear is made. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost, and so are the skins; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins." The only path to the Father is through the Son. Acts 13 36 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, died, was laid beside his ancestors, and experienced corruption; 37 but he whom God raised up experienced no corruption. 38 Let it be known to you therefore, my brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you; 39 by this Jesus everyone who believes is set free from all those sins from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. Hebrews 8 10 This is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 11 And they shall not teach one another or say to each other, "Know the Lord,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more." 13 In speaking of "a new covenant," he has made the first one obsolete. And what is obsolete and growing old will soon disappear. 2Corinthians 3 7 Now if the ministry of death, chiseled in letters on stone tablets, came in glory so that the people of Israel could not gaze at Moses' face because of the glory of his face, a glory now set aside, 8 how much more will the ministry of the Spirit come in glory? 9 For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, much more does the ministry of justification abound in glory! Romans 8 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Ananias an Saphira did not believe in accountability, God struck them dead as well. Did you know God says he is Austere, which I would presume is saying not anybodies fool. God has warned Jew and gentile alike, even in the New Testament, iniquities WILL cost eternal lives.

Revelation 21:6-8 6He said to me: "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." When you are a believer, you have evidence of that belief. Through the spirit and your fruit. God will judge you based upon your fruit. Saying you are a believer and not producing fruit is a dicey proposition. It is not 1 sin and it is not a thousand sins......it is a condition of the heart. Unbelief is a sure fire ticket to Hell.

quote:
Maybe you haven’t heard, God is the Eternal judge who JUDGES ALL. I have no doubt about that. What does that have to do with comparing a misdemeanor and a felony? Those are terms found in the American judicial system, not Scripture. Stealing is stealing to God. The teen who steals the candy bar is just as much a thief as the cat burglar who makes off with the priceless work of art. quote:
Were you point of view the end all be all, then the Apostles were in grevious error in referring to loss of eternal life-not inheriting eternal life. There has been oceans of ink spilled on the issue of eternal security pretty much from the time Jesus went back up to Heaven. If you really think you have the answer in a settled sense, then I would encourage you to consider repenting of the sin of pride which may well be in your heart. quote:
Ananias an Saphira did not believe in accountability, God struck them dead as well. There's a difference between being struck dead in our physical bodies, and being damned to an eternity in hell. quote:
God has warned Jew and gentile alike, even in the New Testament, iniquities WILL cost eternal lives. They certainly will, but not for those whose sins are forgiven - and if one has confessed with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believed in their heart that God raised Him from the dead, then their sins are forgiven.

Seriously? I think the Bible makes it quite clear that ,"his ways are not our ways." We see through a glass darkly now too. I do not even presume to know who else can be saved. That's none of my business. Let others deal with their own relationship with God. He knows their hearts-I don't.
